CJN - Human rights museum gets national status

WINNIPEG — Prime Minister Stephen Harper has announced that the Canadian Museum for Human Rights will become the first national museum outside of Ottawa.

(Background: This Museum was originally the dream of the late Izzy Asper, the Zionist owner of most of the media in this country. Mr. Asper's original idea was to build a Holocaust Museum (with contributions from the federal, provincial and municipals governments) but when other ethnic groups protested that their stories should also be told, the name was changed to Human Rights Museum. No doubt the Zionist Asper family will play a large role in the administration and content of this publicly funded museum. )

EI - What the persecution of Azmi Bishara means for Palestine

Elected to the Knesset in 1996, Bishara is a founder of the National Democratic Assembly, a party which calls for Israel to be transformed from a sectarian ethnocracy into a democratic state of all its citizens.

(Note - Fearing arrest, Bishara has left Israel and resigned his post in the Knesset on April 22. )

Gush Shalom - Dunam after Dunam

(NOTE: The Jewish National Fund is a registered charitable organization in Canada!)

The Jewish National Fund (in Hebrew Keren Kayemet le-Israel - KKL) holds 13% of all the land in Israel. Its statutes explicitly prohibit the sale or rental of land to non-Jews. This means that every Jew in the world, living anywhere from Timbuktu to Kamchatka, can get land from the KKL, without even coming to Israel, while an Arab citizen of Israel, whose forefathers have lived here for hundreds - or even thousands - of years, cannot acquire a house or an apartment on its land.

Progressive Vancouver organizations concerned about the situation in Israel/Palestine will hold a protest demonstration at the annual fund-raising dinner of the Jewish National Fund on: Sunday, April 29, 2007, from 4:30 to 6:00 PM. It will take place in front of the Four Seasons Hotel at Georgia and Howe Streets, Vancouver.

G&M - Why the Arab peace initiative should not be rejected

.... What ought to be points to discuss at a negotiating table are made preconditions designed to ensure that no discussions ever take place or else requiring Palestinians to accept Israel's position. The demand that the Palestinians recognize Israel should be matched by Israel's recognition of the Palestinians' own elected government.

Jewish Voices for Peace endorses Saudi Peace Plan

It is important to understand what this initiative says and the great potential it has for putting the region on a course toward a sustainable peace. It is also important to understand what it is not — a take it or leave it offer with no room for negotiations.

Just Int'l - The History of Israel Reconsidered: A Talk by Ilan Pappe

(This article by Israeli historian Ilan Pappe debunks the Zionist argument that the Arabs attacked the newly created state of Israel simply out of hatred of Jews. The fact is that the Zionists planned the dispossession of the Palestinians long before 1948 and the Palestinians were well aware of this. Palestinian opposition to Jewish immigration prior to 1948 was based on their knowledge that the Zionists planned the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine, not on racism.)

First of all, we found out that the Zionist leadership, the Israeli leadership, regardless of the peace plans of the United Nations, contemplated long before 1948 the dispossession of the Palestinians, the expulsion of the Palestinians. So it was not that as a result of the war that the Palestinians lost their homes. It was as a result of a Jewish, Zionist, Israeli, call it what you want, plan that Palestine was ethnically cleansed in 1948 of its original indigenous population.

Haaretz - Israel doesn't want peace

The moment of truth has arrived, and it has to be said: Israel does not want peace. The arsenal of excuses has run out, and the chorus of Israeli rejection already rings hollow. Until recently, it was still possible to accept the Israeli refrain that "there is no partner" for peace and that "the time isn't right" to deal with our enemies. Today, the new reality before our eyes leaves no room for doubt and the tired refrain that "Israel supports peace" has been left shattered.

Embassy - Arab World Angry with Canada

Palestinian Information Minister Mustafa Barghouti talks about his snub by Peter MacKay and how Canada should deal with his government. For Mustafa Barghouti, it was the snub felt throughout the Arab world. ....

To what do you attribute the federal government's reticence?

The government looks at us through Israeli glasses. We want them to read our platform with Canadian eyes, not with Israeli eyes.

Gush Shalom - Without Borders

INCREDIBLE! In Palestinian schoolbooks, there is no trace of the Green Line! They do not recognize the existence of Israel even in the 1967 borders! They say that the 'Zionist gangs' stole the country from the Arabs! That's how they poison the minds of their children! ....

WELL, WHAT about our side? [The writer is Israeli.] What do our schoolbooks look like?

Does the Green Line appear in them? Do they recognize the right of the Palestinians to establish a state on the other side of our 1967 borders? Do they teach love for the Palestinian people (or even the existence of the Palestinian people), or respect for the Arabs in general, or a knowledge of Islam?

The answer to all these questions: Absolutely not!

Recently, Minister of Education Yuli Tamir came out with a bombastic announcement saying that she intends to mark the Green Line in the schoolbooks, from which it was removed almost 40 years ago. The Right reacted angrily, and nothing more was heard about it.

Reuters - UN rights envoy likens Israeli actions to apartheid

A United Nations human rights envoy on Thursday likened Israeli treatment of Palestinians in occupied territory to apartheid, and said its settlement policy amounted to colonialism.

South African lawyer John Dugard warned Western states they would never rally support among developing nations for effective action against perceived abuses in Sudan's Darfur, Zimbabwe and Myanmar unless they tackled the plight of Palestinians.

"This places in danger the whole international human rights enterprise," he told the Council, a Geneva-based watchdog.

PAJU - Yes, Israel Targets Civilians (Bulleting #320)

(The Montreal Group PAJU (Palestininan and Jewish Unity )has held a vigil every Friday, rain, sleet, shine or -30, for the last several years.  They distribute material such as the following to people passing by on the street. )

The immense damage Israel causes to West Bank towns dwarfs the limited damage Palestinians cause to Israel. Let us stop pretending that"Palestinians target civilians and Israel is pure". Let us admit the truth: Israel also targets civilians. And it causes vastly more damage, suffering and loss of life.
